We treat many conditions for our patients at our Kent/Covington clinic. Our clinic works closely with many professionals in the surrounding areas such as; medical doctors, physical therapists, massage therapists and naturopathic doctors. Our team always focuses on the best treatment and care for each patient.

Here is a brief description of common conditions we treat

BACK PAIN

The number one thing chiropractors treat is low back pain. Often times low back pain is caused due to nerves being pinched. Through adjusting. chiropractors work on aligning the joints which then allows the nerves to travel through and relieves pressure. There are many causes for back pain such as trauma, disc bulges, and sciatica. Chiropractors are trained in recognizing the cause for the pain, how to treat it, and whether or not it is necessary to refer the patient to another specialist. Receiving chiropractic care to help alleviate low back pain has been backed by science to be safe and effective.

NECK PAIN

Chiropractic care is a great way to help reduce neck pain. With the advancements in technology, people are spending a lot more time looking down at cell phones, computers, and tablets. This puts the body in a hunched position and creates a lot of muscle tension through the neck and upper back. This can also result in a straightening of the natural curve in the neck, which leaves the body prone to neck injuries and headaches. Through adjusting, posture correction, workplace ergonomic evaluation, reestablishing the necks natural curve, and addressing muscular imbalances like upper crossed syndrome, patients are amazed at how much better they feel.

AUTO ACCIDENT INJURIES

Auto accidents happen every day and even just a small impact can create a variety of symptoms. Common symptoms include headaches, whiplash injuries, pain throughout the spine, knee pain, shoulder pain, radiating pain down the arms or legs, and much more. Although cars have made great strides in improving safety, it is inevitable that some of the impact forces of the collision will affect those involved. Car collisions commonly mean more complicated injuries and this is why we have our health care team of chiropractors, massage therapists, rehab specialist, and acupuncturist to guarantee the patient gets the highest quality of care.

HEADACHES

There are a variety of headache types and identifying which one a patient is experiencing can help direct what the best treatment option is. The three most common headaches are tension type headaches, cervicogenic headaches, and migraines. Tension type headaches are often triggered by stress and can be addressed through trigger point therapy and stress management strategies. Cervicogenic headaches start in the neck area and slowly wrap around the head. This can occur due to misalignment of the neck, especially near the top of the neck where there are more neurovascular structures. Adjusting helps to align the neck properly and decrease muscle tension resulting in a decrease in headache symptoms. Migraines are complicated and trying to identify any triggers are crucial in reducing symptoms. Things such as hormones, foods, drinks, stress, and more can contribute. Chiropractic care has been scientifically shown to help improve symptoms for all three of these headache types.

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve is compressed in the wrist. Often associated with professions that have a repetitive nature such as those who work at a desk typing all day, work on an assembly line, or those who do a lot of packaging. It can also occur in professions that use vibratory tools frequently. This can create stress and irritation at the wrist and lead to pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the wrist and hand. There are eight small bones in the wrist and if not aligned properly it can create unnecessary pressure on the median nerve. This is why adjusting the wrist can alleviate symptoms, as well as addressing muscular tightness in the forearm that could be contributing. Graston is a great technique to relax these muscles.

PREGNANCY

There are a variety of pains that can occur throughout pregnancy that chiropractic can help with. As the baby grows and changes in hormones occur, ensuring everything is properly aligned is very important to help the expecting mother manage any pain she may experience. Chiropractors help many women with low back pain, hip pain, and pelvic pain. As the baby gets closer to birth, the body will release more of the hormone relaxin, which loosens the ligaments as the body prepares for the birthing process. This can create added stress on the joints and getting adjusted helps women manage the pain.

SCIATICA

Sciatica is a condition many people are aware of these days. It occurs when there is radiating pain down into the person's leg. But what causes sciatica? Pain can occur due to a disc bulge/herniation from the spine that puts pressure on the spinal nerve and creates symptoms going into the leg. Chiropractic adjustments help to influence the disc material to return to its normal position and take pressure off of the nerve, which reduces how far the pain travels down the leg and the intensity of the pain. Another common cause of sciatica is due to the piriformis muscle that traverses horizontally in the gluteal region. The sciatic nerve lies underneath this muscle and when the piriformis muscle gets tight it aggravates the nerve. This is why we prescribe various stretches for our patients to do at home.

ARTHRITIS

The most common form of arthritis is referred to as osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease. Arthritis can be influenced by injuries, genetics, and age. This is why chiropractic is a great option at helping to prevent the early onset of arthritis. It helps to keep joints properly aligned so that unnecessary stresses do not occur and joints stay healthy. If arthritis has occurred, chiropractic care is still a great option. Studies have shown that getting adjusted can help reduce pain and improve blood flow to joints.

JOINT PAIN / STIFFNESS

Everyone experiences joint stiffness at some point in their lives. When this occurs, seeing a chiropractor is a great option. Joint stiffness is often a precursor to pain down the road. When joints get stiff and do not move as well as they are supposed to, it leaves the body open to injury. When joints have restricted motion it can put your body in more compromising positions and cause poor recruitment patterns of muscles. This is why being proactive and seeing your chiropractor is so important. It helps to reduce the likelihood of injury by keeping joints healthy.
